Course Syllabus

This Elective Course is designed to teach you to think critically about the issues that have confronted and influenced not only Europe but the Global community, through a process that integrates the examination of factual knowledge, the development and application of analytic skills, and the assessment of primary and secondary sources. There are two main objectives of the course. The first is to help prepare you for the academic rigors of college. The second is to enhance your understanding of European History, literature, and culture while preparing you to successfully complete the AP Exam. The course will provide you with one of the most rigorous academic experiences offered at Culver and help you understand your strengths and weaknesses as a scholar. Hard work, dedication, and the ability to manage time will be essential for success

Grade Policy: Term Grades – this course follows a term grade and GP grades are simply a measurement of where you are at on that particular moment.

Performance – Aspects of The Culver Competencies will be measured through the following assessments: Multiple choice exams / DBQ / FRQ / SAQ writing assignments/ Harkness. (80% of composite)

DBQ & FRQ essays rewrites will be offered only 3x  throughout the course. The highest grade that may be achieved through a rewrite is an 87%

Time management and discipline are core values for success. Traditionally late assignments are NOT accepted but occasionally circumstances arise which preclude work being turned in late. The first rule of thumb is to CONTACT THE INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY to discuss the situation. With that in mind, late assignments will not receive full credit.

AI Policy: AI should not be used in the course unless expressly indicated by the instructor. All sources utilize or consult (including other people, paper, and digital) must be cited. All essays are to be considered your own work and not the work of others, digital or human.

Website: The course calendar, assignments, readings, podcasts, videos, and any other relevant material will be found on the course website. It is important you familiarize yourself with it as it will be an integral part of the course.
