Parents Day Discussion

After a brief introduction you will walk around certain parts of campus (Math/Science, Humanities, and Crisp) and inform your parent/guardian/guest about artwork. This “conversation” must be recorded and turned in by Monday. It can be filmed, recorded, or written down and submitted to me through email. I will divide up who goes where in class. The following artwork is below along with discussion questions.

Math/Science: “School of Athens”

Humanities: “Arnolfini Portrait”

Crisp: “Young Warrior/ Young Scholar”, Guttenberg page, “The Merchant”, “St. Belina” (statue)

Questions

  1. How does the work reflect the Renaissance style?
  2. How does the work reflect humanism?

Test hint for Monday Section 2

Reminder to bring your hardcopy of “The Prince” as you may use it during the test. Electronic copies will not be allowed. Also I will be examining each book during the exam to make sure that any annotations made are strictly on the work, as anything not pertaining to the work will result in the book being taken during the exam and charges of cheating will be brought up.

Also don’t forget about the vocabulary!

Hint for the first test (but not last) of the new school year!!!!!!

For those of you new to an advanced course in Humanities the SAQ or LEQ questions will not simply ask you to plug facts into a straight question. The questions tend to challenge you to think critically by drawing connections to the information you have covered and then provide historical facts to back up those your ideas to those connections.

You might want to explore life during the Middle Ages both in the village and city, as there are ways to avoid the filth to stake your claim to further centralize power.

Don’t forget you must use a set number of vocabulary words (given to you on the test) from Section 1 within your writing. Review the LEQ rubric to understand what I am looking for when assessing your essay. Partial credit can be earned on SAQs and vocabulary is all or nothing.

Scoring Breakdown: LEQ=100, SAQ=30, Vocabulary=10
